You've saved and saved and can finally afford to purchase your own home. You've interviewed real estate agents and hired one that you trust. You may think the hard part is over, but it's only just beginning. Now that you're serious about buying a home, you have the unenviable task of searching through the Mississauga listings (or the Newport News listings if you're buying here at home) to find the one perfect house for you. To ensure this process goes smoothly, you should compile a "must have" list.
What is a must have list?
A must have list is exactly what it sounds like. It's a collection of features that you absolutely need the home you buy to have. This isn't a list for things you would like to have in a Mississauga condominium or even things you simply want, this is a list of deal breakers. It should be taken very seriously and given a lot of thought.
Why should I make one?
If you give your list the attention it needs, it could take you days or even weeks to finish it. So why should you bother? Because it will actually end up saving you time in the long run. When the list is finished it should be given to your real estate agent so that he or she can present you with the Lagrange, NY homes that meet your qualifications and none that don't.
What should be on this list?
The most important information on this list should be the type of dwelling (e.g. detached home, condo) and the number of bedrooms and bathrooms you will need. Think also about how big of a house you want (in terms of square footage) whether you will need certain features, such as a garage, fenced in yard, or basement, and which neighborhoods in the city you are willing to live in. Also, if you remember something from one of the Toronto condos you have looked at, like a solarium or fireplace, include that as well.
Who should have input?
Buying a home is not like choosing Puerto Vallarta real estate to rent for a few weeks. You and your family will be living here for the foreseeable future, so everyone living in the house should be allowed to voice their needs even if you will be the one making the final decisions. For instance, if your aged mother lives with you, can she handle stairs or will she need a ground floor bedroom?
